A decision made in your own time

Ideas for
the Ashes

There is no need to decide what to do with the ashes immediately. When you are ready, we will gently guide you through every option.

What Will I Do With the Ashes?

The decision of what to do with the ashes does not need to be made immediately. However, there are four main options which you will need to consider in time.

You can keep the ashes at home, or we can take care of them for up to one year — our Funeral Home in Boscombe would ensure their safe keeping until you are ready.

When you meet with us we can discuss all the options with you, with no pressure whatsoever. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do contact us.

Caring for the Ashes

These are the four most common choices families make. Each is equally valid, and we can help you explore whichever feels right.

01

Keep at Home

Many families choose to keep the ashes at home in an urn, casket, or other meaningful vessel. We can supply a wide range of urns and caskets to suit every taste and budget, from simple and understated to beautifully crafted keepsakes.

02

Scatter at the Crematorium

Ashes can be scattered quietly by crematorium staff on your behalf, or, if you prefer, you can witness the scattering at a time arranged with the crematorium. This can be a peaceful and meaningful moment for the family.

03

Scatter in a Special Place

You can scatter the ashes somewhere that held meaning for your loved one — the beach, a forest, a river, the sea, a favourite garden, or anywhere else that feels right. We can advise you on any permissions or considerations involved.

04

Burial in a Grave

Ashes can be buried in a new grave, or interred in an existing family grave — a deeply meaningful choice that creates a lasting place for remembrance and for family to visit. We can help make the necessary arrangements.

Creative & Alternative Options

Beyond the traditional choices, there are many thoughtful and personal ways to honour a loved one's memory.

Memorial Diamond

A small amount of ashes can be transformed into a genuine diamond — which can then be set into a necklace or ring as an enduring keepsake to be worn and treasured.

Cremation Jewellery

A small quantity of ashes can be placed into specially designed cremation jewellery — pendants, bracelets, rings and more — allowing you to keep your loved one close at all times.

Fireworks

A specialist company can incorporate ashes into a fireworks display, creating a spectacular and joyful farewell event for family and friends to share together.

Sent into Space

For the adventurous spirit — a small portion of ashes can be launched into space, giving your loved one a truly unique and infinite journey.

Memorial Glassware

A glass works specialising in memorial pieces can incorporate a small amount of ashes into beautiful glass pendant necklaces, paperweights, vases and many other decorative items.

Display Clocks

We can supply elegant display clocks that feature a discrete compartment at the back — allowing the ashes to be present in the home in a dignified and beautiful way.

Garden Memorial

We can supply elegant garden memorials — beautiful sculptures or markers that provide a lasting, peaceful place of remembrance in a garden setting.

We'll Guide You When You're Ready

You do not need to make any decisions about the ashes straight away. We can safely care for them at our Boscombe Funeral Home for up to one year.
